Open Question: "single serving friend" What does this mean?

i was seeing this film called "Fight Club" which is a pretty popular one starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. In the scene where Edward's character meets brad's character for the first time on an airplane, he says " you are by far the most interesting single serving friend."
